Capillary desaturation curve: does low salinity surfactant flooding significantly reduce the residual oil saturation?

چکیده

Abstract Different oil displacement experiments conducted on sandstone and carbonate samples show that low salinity water (LSW) injection can reduce the residual saturation (ROS). Recently, surfactant flooding (SF) in combination with (known as (LSS) flooding) is proposed a potentially promising hybrid enhanced recovery (EOR) process. A lower ROS reported for LSS process compared to seen SF or LSW at same capillary number. The desaturation curve (CDC) well-known tool study effect of viscous forces different EOR techniques. In this study, data various LSW, SF, numbers are collected develop CDC analyze performance method. This help method an extra improvement sweep efficiency reduction oil. observed number range. The Performance Evaluation of Viscous-Modified Surfactant Water Flooding in Heavy Oil Reservoirs at Varying Salinity of Injected Polymer-Contained Surfactant Solution

This study examines the effects of change in the concentrations of monovalent and divalent ions in the polymer-contained surfactant solution on the macroscopic behavior of viscous-modified surfactant waterflooding in heavy oil reservoirs. Salts that are used in this set of floods were sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, and calcium chloride. The results indicate that four different ranges ...

Low Salinity Oil Recovery - an Experimental Investigation

The idea of injecting low salinity water into a petroleum reservoir is not novel and was often used in the 70’s prior to the injection of surfactant. Yet, recently it was shown that simply injecting sufficiently low salinity water improves oil recovery (LoSalTM). Many possible mechanisms concerning Low salinity waterflood have been proposed in the literature. This paper describes an experimenta...

CORE FLOOD STUDIES TO EVALUATE EFFICIENCY OF OIL RECOVERY BY LOW SALINITY WATER FLOODING AS A SECONDARY RECOVERY PROCESS

Various researches on laboratory and field scale illustrate that manipulating the ionic composition and the ion concentration of injected water can affect the efficiency of water flooding and the interaction of injected water with rock and other fluids present in porous media. The objectives of this paper are to investigate parameters that affect low salinity water flooding; mainly the effect o...

Modeling Chemical EOR Processes: Some Illustrations from Lab to Reservoir Scale

Modeling Chemical EOR Processes: Some Illustrations from Lab to Reservoir Scale — Chemical flooding, SP (Surfactant Polymer) or ASP (Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer), are of increasing interest due to the need to increase oil production. Design of chemical processes is very project specific and requires case by case studies including various steps among which reservoir data analysis, chemical formula...

Trapping and mobilization of residual fluid during capillary desaturation in porous media.

We discuss the problem of trapping and mobilization of nonwetting fluids during immiscible two-phase displacement processes in porous media. Capillary desaturation curves give residual saturations as a function of capillary number. Interpreting capillary numbers as the ratio of viscous to capillary forces the breakpoint in experimental curves contradicts the theoretically predicted force balanc...
